Mark was born and raised in England where his family continue to reside. His dad is a retired Church of England Minister, while his mother is a retired Registered Nurse and Midwife. Mark graduated from Sheffield University in 1983, and the following year moved to Hamilton in order to continue his studies in theology at McMaster University. He graduated from Emmanuel College in 1999, was ordained that year and moved to a four point pastoral charge in south western Manitoba. In 2010, he was called to Neepawa, then to Kildonan in the summer of 2012.
Mark is married to the beautiful Gloria Laliberte, and they have one teenage daughter, Aaliyah, who will graduate next year, from the Laureate Academy. Gloria was born and raised in Winnipeg and is an RN working at the Middlechurch Personal Care Home.
For hobbies, Gloria and Mark have been giving a home to rescued dogs and cats for a number of years. Mark is seen often in the West Kildonan neighbourhood being walked by his two bigger dogs, or at one of the off leash parks with all four in somewhat close proximity. He enjoys cooking, especially anything hot and spicy.
Music is an important part of Mark’s life. There is often music playing in the office. Bob Dylan, along with those early blues and Gospel masters who influenced him, particular favourites. He loves to read as well, trashy mysteries later at night, and many of the classics the rest of the time. A recent convert to e-readers, he is now building his virtual library to complement his real library.
Amongst Mark’s hopes is to travel to Israel, Egypt, Greece, Russia and Spain. He would love to go to Prague and walk in the footsteps of one of his favourite authors, Franz Kafka. One day, he has promised himself that he will return to University. After all, a person can never acquire too much knowledge.
This is an exciting time to be at the Kildonan United Church as together we explore what it means to be a Christian Church in the post modern world.
